Last weekend, the University of Sheffield Enterprise and Startup Weekend hosted a battle of ideas in the Sheffield Diamond.
In what was a competitive gathering of budding young creatives, developers and leaders, everybody brought their game faces – you could smell the adrenaline from the moment it kicked off on Friday evening, and the hunger for victory only got stronger as time went on.
The purpose of the event was to kick-start ideas for creating value in the world. This involved plenty of creative pitches from all of the hopefuls present, followed by the formation of the teams who would bring these ideas to life.
The event was really well-run, and brought some of the brightest minds in Sheffield’s startup scene together, with influential speakers and expert mentors swinging by to help the ideas hatch. Given each project’s ambition, combined with the short timeframe for producing an end product, the end result was tremendous.
The Sunday showdown came to a close in a nail-biting finale, when teams got the chance to pitch their final products. The top prize was eventually awarded to SpareChange, which was a social good application that connected people who wanted to donate to the homeless.
Big thanks to Samantha Deakin Hill, Kisha Bradley and the rest of the University of Sheffield Enterprise team who put this event together.
